תקציר:
סאטירה מרושעת של קובריק, היורקת בארסיות בפניהן של מעצמות העל, בסרט שנוצר בשיאה של המלחמה הקרה וחרדות האטום.
קולונל אמריקאי מופרע מחליט להפציץ את ברית המועצות, בטענה שהקומוניסטים הולכים להרוס את העולם. הנשיא האמריקאי נפגש עם יועציו ועם השגריר הסובייטי, שמאיים שאם ברית המועצות תידחק לפינה ותותקף, היא תגיב בשימוש ב"נשק יום הדין", שיעצור את כל החיים על פני כדור הארץ.
